What is PharmD degree? (For Future US Pharmacy Students) The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) 1) The Doctor of Pharmacy degree is the degree you should seek if you are interested in becoming a pharmacist in the U.S. Upon licensure, this degree will allow you to practice pharmacy in a number of settings including in a hospital or community setting, home health care, and nursing home care. A prior degree is not necessary. 2)The professional education program offered by a US School of Pharmacy is centered around the entry-level professional degree for pharmacy, the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. The PharmD degree is neither an undergraduate degree (e.g. BS, BA) nor a graduate degree (e.g. MS, MBA, PhD), but rather a professional degree for pharmacists similar to the Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) for physicians. 3) Please contact an individual PharmD program for admission information. (Scroll down this page and read more about specific PharmD programs in the States!)
